Why Is Fashion Still Dragging Its Feat On Sustainability?

It’s a good question and one we should all be asking because fashion is still dragging its feet on sustainability – particularly when it comes to targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Currently, the majority of targets – including those approved by the Science Based Targets initiative – are in relation to growth (particularly in scope 3), meaning that they are not aligned with the 1.5C pathway set out by the Paris Agreement. It’s actually possible for absolute greenhouse gas emissions to go up, depending on how much a brand grows.


As Kering became one of the first major players to set absolute emissions targets last month, it’s clear that other brands now need to follow suit. We can but hope.
